Proper Sports Bra Fit
For female athletes there is an additional piece of equipment as important as running shoes–a sports bra. Finding and fitting the right sports bra takes some effort, so let us help!
Did you know that as many as 80 percent of women are running in the wrong size sports bra? There are several reasons for this:
- Bras break down from repeated use and washing just the way running shoes breakdown as you run more miles, so women should be trying on and considering a replacement bra about every 12 to 18 months.
- Many life events cause a woman’s breasts to change–growth from teen to young adulthood, pregnancy, weight loss or weight gain, menopause, or a severe health issue such as breast cancer–which demand that a woman re-measure her breasts occasionally.
- Advances in bra design now allow for greater variety of styles and fits for the variety of women’s shapes and sizes.
Are you a woman who has been using the same two or three sports bras for more years than you can remember? Do you treat your sports bra like your favorite pair of jeans–hang on to it until it is frayed on the edges and the color is faded or dingy? At Garry Gribble’s Running Sports our selection of sports bras from Moving Comfort, Nike, Mizuno, Asics, Patagonia, Sugoi and others, in sizes from extra small to extra large, and in cup sizes from A to DD, offers something for all female body types.
We also have a pamphlet on how to measure yourself for a properly fit sports bra. Please look for this in the women’s apparel section, on the race pamphlet wall, or ask a sales associate for one when you are next in the stores. We encourage you to come in and try on several styles of bras and to move around in them–do some jumping jacks in the fitting room or take a walk around the store or a jog outside the store to see how the bra feels when you have it on.
All of our staff members are sensitive to your needs and want to help you find the proper sports bra. Our female employees are especially ready to assist you because they have tried on the bras and run in them. They can help you select a few bras to try on and give you tips on common fit problems like chafing, tight or loose straps, bras that ride up when you are moving, or other concerns.
When it is time to purchase your next pair of running shoes, you should also consider purchasing a new sports bra. Moving Comfort can help you prepare to try on a new bra.
